a woman is killed by her current or former partner.
have experienced violence by an intimate partner since the age of 15.
have experienced sexual harassment since the age of 15.
The White Ribbon Promise is a personal commitment to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women and children.
Making the Promise is about more than saying the words. It is about considering the role each of us can play in creating safer, more respectful and equal communities.
Violence against women does not happen in isolation. The attitudes, behaviours and inequalities that allow violence to occur can show up in everyday conversations, relationships, workplaces, sporting clubs, schools, online spaces and communities.
Change happens when more people are willing to notice these behaviours and choose to do something differently.
You do not need to have all the answers or respond perfectly every time.
Making the White Ribbon Promise means committing to keep learning, reflecting and taking action when you can.
That might mean:
speaking up when someone makes a sexist or disrespectful comment
refusing to laugh along with jokes that demean women
challenging attitudes that excuse, minimise or normalise violence
listening to women and respecting their experiences and perspectives
reflecting on your own attitudes and behaviour
modelling respectful and equal relationships
supporting a friend or colleague to rethink harmful behaviour
calling men in and encouraging better choices
helping create workplaces, sporting clubs and communities where respect and equality are expected
knowing when and where to seek support if you are concerned about someone’s behaviour or safety
Small actions, repeated across our homes, workplaces and communities, can help change the attitudes and social conditions that contribute to violence against women.
