This White Ribbon Day, we are asking Australians to consider what gender equality means, where inequality still exists and what each of us can do to create change.
Gender equality is central to preventing men’s violence against women. When women are respected, valued and able to participate equally in relationships, workplaces and communities, we help challenge the attitudes and power imbalances that allow violence to occur.
Everyone has a role to play.
Gender equality is about more than equal representation. It is reflected in whose voices are heard, how decisions are made, how care and responsibility are shared, and whether people are treated with equal dignity and respect.
Inequality can also be seen in everyday attitudes and behaviours. Sexist jokes, rigid gender expectations, disrespect, control and the dismissal of women’s experiences can all contribute to a culture in which violence is more likely to occur.
White Ribbon Day 2026 invites people of all genders to reflect on these everyday influences and take practical action.
Creating change might mean:
No single person can create gender equality alone. Each of us can influence the people, relationships and communities around us.
This White Ribbon Day, we are bringing WeListen back to ask Australians what gender equality means to them and what needs to change.
Through vox pops, interviews and community conversations, WeListen will share perspectives from people of different genders, ages and backgrounds.
